Champion @ Target Performance Marketing

advertising, digital, performance marketing

The Champion Kids at Target performance marketing campaign represented a comprehensive digital launch strategy combining brand awareness with conversion-focused tactics across Target's retail media ecosystem. This exclusive partnership introduced Champion Kids to Target's family shoppers during the competitive back-to-school season, requiring strategic balance between building brand recognition and driving measurable sales across both digital and physical retail channels.

The campaign architecture employed a full-funnel media approach, strategically allocating budget across multiple channels including Target's Roundel platform, sponsored search, display advertising, and connected TV. Creative direction centered on the "Champions for Champion" concept, featuring authentic, documentary-style photography that positioned the brand as heritage sportswear with modern comfort appeal rather than performance athletic gear.

Strategic execution evolved through distinct phases beginning with baseline establishment across all channels, followed by data-driven optimization that shifted investment toward high-performing onsite display and search placements. The approach recognized that the majority of Target's Champion sales occurred in-store, requiring upper-funnel investment to drive foot traffic while maintaining conversion-focused digital tactics.

Creative development prioritized parent-focused messaging emphasizing comfort and quality, with assets engineered specifically for Target's native retail environment. Photography featured natural, relaxed styling over polished commercial aesthetics, consistently outperforming more traditional advertising approaches. Influencer content was strategically repurposed as performance creative assets rather than standalone awareness media.

The campaign achieved exceptional results with overall ROAS of 7.19x and 11.54x specifically on Target.com, while successfully acquiring 82.6% new-to-brand customers. Digital initiatives drove significant omnichannel impact, with 37.7% of attributed sales occurring in physical stores. The launch established Champion Kids as a leading apparel brand at Target, with the brand page becoming the top-performing category destination attracting over 603,000 visits.
